August 2007

School is in full swing now and I am really enjoying both of my classes.  Both Carrie and I have been working a lot of hours which will hopefully slow down after this current week.  Taylor is walking machine (if I sent you a link to a video and it didn’t work, sorry I am learning how to use the website I will try to get it right) and has picked up on a few words, one of her favorites is “quack.”  My parents are coming out in a couple weeks and then Carrie’s mom a couple weeks after that so it will be nice to have some family around!!
There was a carnival at Southern last weekend here is a picture of Taylor Taylor 1 Taylor 2 it was hot but we had a good time.  Taylor liked watching the kids in the bounce house but maybe next year she will be able to play a bit more.  Her favorite was a plastic pool full of rubber duckies which she quacked at.
I have three chapters to read before class so I will write more later.

I didn’t give a book list for this class yet so if you are looking for some reading material on the church here are a few you may want to check out.  Click on the title for more info:
3 Crucial Questions about Spiritual Warfare by Clinton Arnold
This is a book that gets you thinking
Warfare Witness by Stanley Gale
I haven’t started this one yet
Discipled Warriors by Chuck Lawless
Great book on what a biblical church is and does.  Also has a workbook that goes with it, 8 week study I believe, I would highly recommend.
Serving in your church prayer ministry by Chuck Lawless
Haven’t started this one but know it is worth reading
Deliver Us from Evil ed. Scott A. Moreau
A history and compilation of essays for a Warfare conference.  Informative reading.
Spiritual Power and Missions ed. Edward Rommen
Gets the contemplative juices flowing with some practicality.

This is a great class on a topic most have an opinion about but few have a biblical perspective.

Well since my last post Carrie and I have both started working, she at Lowe’s and myself at Target.  We are both really enjoying working, I know we have only been doing it for a couple of weeks but none the less enjoy it while it’s something new, and are getting used to a different schedule.  My day starts about two and a half hours before the sun comes up and Carrie’s ends near or after the sun goes down.  Yes, I know what you are thinking but it really is not as bad as it seems, I am usually home by lunch except on tues and thurs I have class.
The two that I have decided on are Intro to NT and Spiritual Warfare in Evangelism and Missions.  The professor that I am most interested in teaches the latter and I am really looking forward to that class on Tuesday.  I only have about 2,284 more pages to read before finals.
We think we have found the church that we will attend it is called Eastern Heights and we have been getting to know some people there and it seems like it will be a good fit.
Taylor has 5 teeth now so we have to pay attention when she gets near a finger or toe!!
My parents will be coming out the second week of September and Carrie’s mom is coming the last week of September.

QUIZ:
Do you know what was created on each of the six days (without looking)?  If not read through Genesis 1 real quick.

(To those of you who leave comments, thanks, I will do better replying to them, I’m a slacker)

John Piper wrote a biblical response to what happened called “Putting My Daughter to Bed Two Hours After the Bridge Collapsed”. As you get a chance read this article for some perspective on what our response should be when things like this happen.
